We've narrowed it down to either a ballerina or Tinker-bell for this year's trick or treating holiday. After a half-hour session of flipping through catalogs, "I wanna be a mermaid...No, I wanna be a princess...No, I wanna be a fairy"... After this session, two things became clear to me - 1) my daughter now has very specific opinions and 2) she's definitely into the girly girl stage...oye!
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I have daughters. I think I can connect and relate better to girl things...as I am a girl (duh). Because I'm not sure how I'd do with dinosaurs and baseball. However I'm really not that keen on this whole princess, fairytale, magic wands, fancy dresses stuff either.
When Sydney was little(er) she was into more androgynous things - not a lot of interest in dolls and such. She was more into playing with animals, puzzles, coloring. Of course....she was probably into these things because that was what we provided for her! Now though, she's been bitten by the princess bug.
This will be Sydney's fourth Halloween. For her first Halloween her costume was as a "burrito". That's what we called her all swaddled up in her receiving blanket as she was just a wee two weeks old. For her second Halloween, our little sweetie was the only girl at a party with witches, princesses and cheerleaders dressed as an animal.
For year three we dressed her as a kitty cat...maybe a little more girly - but still no crowns or pom poms.
I suppose it's only fair that for her fourth Halloween she gets her say. I tried to suggest a bumble bee, but she wanted no part of that. So, we'll go one more round of what's better - a ballerina or Tinker-bell...and go with it.
One thing is certain, though, Mommy is ready and able to handle our baby growing up and wanting to dress as a ballerina...but if I hear, "Mommy, I want to be Hanna Montana". The answer is...No!
