It might be my new routine to do a weekend update on Mondays - since the weekends pass me by, as does Monday.
So here goes.....
On Friday evening, we joined our friends for dinner at their house - the friends that just had the new baby. I got to get in my baby fix, so that was amazing. I haven't held a newborn in a long time. It was fun to share stories about those beginning days with a new baby. It's so fresh in the mind and so very sweet to remember the days of non-stop cuddling all day long.
On Saturday, it was a paint day. Yes, I still have more to paint. The kitchen project created work in our formal living room as well. We decided to replace all of the trim boards in that room. And a section of wall was added on. We didn't have the old paint anymore. So I got to give it all a fresh look. I spent the whole day painting the living room.
I got to burn some energy that night, though, because a friend of mine had a birthday party. She invited about 15 people to go play laser tag. Oh my gosh, it was so fun. I've never done that before. The husband laughs because I have terrible vision, and he's seen me shoot a fake gun before at a carnival game. I didn't hit a thing. So he was worried I'd be a miserable laser tag player. Well, I wasn't great - but not that bad. Anyway, though, it was really fun! Afterwards we had dinner at a super cute, fun restaurant called Justine's. We didn't get to dinner until 10:00 p.m. Most of us realized how old we are when we discussed how odd it felt to eat that late....being too late. We're so not French!
Sunday, our family went out for brunch. It's not a typical Sunday activity for us, but it might be now. We have officially joined our neighborhood country club. The club and our community is actually in a struggling period right now. The drought is drastically hurting our golf course, so much so that it has shut down for a period of time. Our neighborhood is very old school, but is changing. This is considered an older age neighborhood, but as time goes by, the old are moving out and young families are moving in. While we live on a golf course, we are not golfers and not really clubbers. We bought our house because it has a beautiful back yard - that just happens to back up to a golf course.
Our lifestyle didn't really match the lifestyle of the "older" members of this community. That is the opinion of many young family members that are moving in too. However, in order to have a club and a course and a pretty back yard and a great school system, people are being encouraged to join the club, to keep the neighborhood/community benefits.
At this stage, joining our club is a small investment to keep the home and surroudings that we've grown to love. But we'll see how things evolve. The club is going to have to reevaluate its new members and what fits with the lifestyle of busy families - not older individuals that can golf every day of the week.
The brunch was might tasty, though, and extremely reasonable. And afterwards the girls took a dip in the pool - Sydney's swim team pool. They both even took their turn going off the diving board - for the first time ever!
Sunday afternoon had promise but then didn't turn out that way. Cheekers had her second week of soccer. And the second week was worse than the first. We ended up leaving early and she fell asleep in the van before we even pulled out of the parking lot. Next week has to be better.
And here we are Monday night. It was a typical Monday - back to school, a trip to the gym, more painting (trim this time), a few errands, dance class, dinner (tonight fish tacos), bath and bed. And now I'm about to pack lunches before ....eventually....hitting the couch.
And that was the weekend.
