I had no idea how many emails I could get in a day and not have a desk job. The amount of paper/email/calendar maintenance is really quite a lot more than I ever expected - now having two school aged children.
Since I ended my day desk job a few years ago, I'm actually on the computer far less than I used to be. I used to track outside work emails all the time to keep myself organized. And when the girls were younger, and I started staying home, being on the computer wasn't particularly necessary. But now, it is.
Because another new thing I'm learning about the emails and all of new reading I have for my school aged children is I need to be prompt. If I don't read it right away, poof I'm outdated. Staying at home, often means bumping into moms at school and out and about. And these moms are on top of all the written goods. I think I got over 50 emails today about things to bring to school, ways to volunteer, sign up sheets, don't forget about this, try to think of ideas about that. Lots O emails!
So as I enter this new phase and try to get myself organized (again), I hope those desk skills come surfacing back. My days lately are not a lot to toot my horn about - but they are hectic.
