My daughter has a first name, it's SYDNEY. My daughter has a second name, it's HOT DOG. 'Cause she loves to eat them every day and if you ask her why she'll sayyyy, "cause Mommy cannot find a way to make a homemade meal today!"
Yes, I am a cooking challenged working mom. I've been back to work now for a little over three weeks, following my 12 week maternity leave with my new baby. Every day, I pick my girls up from day care. We come home. I lug in all of our "STUFF". Sydney wants a snack and Dora. Natalie wants boob. Eddy (cat #1) wants out. Digit (cat #2) wants to be fed. Clarisse (cat #3) wants to weave in and out of my legs as I try to grab the mail, check the answering machine, pick up shoes my husband has left in the middle of the floor... Have I gone to the bathroom yet?? Before I know it, it's 5:30....and guess who forgot to thaw the hamburger?
Every Saturday I go grocery shopping, like the other working moms, and suffer with the cart dodging and long lines. I purchase a variety of foods from all the food groups. I have excellent intentions of preparing this food. I even make out little menus in my daily planner. And for the past three weeks I've written, "on Sunday, prepare food for the week." I also read Mommy cooking tips here and there. I tear out the recipes from my favorite Real Simple magazine. I've even read the articles, "Ways to Prepare Your Meals Ahead of Time" "5 Easy Dinners Even YOU Can Make" "Quit Being a Slacker, Make Your Family Some Hot Food".
But, well, tonight while little Josie down the street was having grilled terriaki chicken, pasta with peas and Parmesan and grilled pineapple... Sydney was devouring a cylinder tube filled with yummy goodness, served with a side of sauce (ketchup), all bran delicious snack crackers, and the finest Del Monte peaches...and milk. Eh, not bad!
Hey, it's only Tuesday.... Maybe tomorrow night, a step up, Mexican night - a tortilla, slap some cheese in it, microwave for 20 seconds. Yummy!

My youngest daughter just turned 3 in March. She would honestly eat a hot dog (or turkey dog) EVERY NIGHT of the week.
I am now "just" working 30 hours and 8 of those are from home, thank you sweet baby Jesus, on Fridays and I still struggle with dinner. ;)
